Body Building Legends

Body building has created many legends over the years none more so than the gentle giant Lou Ferigo, known to many TV watchers as the Incredible Hulk. The trouser shredding green man, for sure the kind of man you would not want to make mad. In my opinion Lou is a true body building legend overcoming a serious handicap and rising from rags to riches from the tough streets of Brooklyn New York to becoming a famous body building great. Let's take a look at Lou's interesting life

The body building years of Lou Ferigno

Born in Brooklyn New York in the 1950's Lou Ferigno was born totally deaf. People's attitudes to deaf people in those days were not as supportative as they are today. As a result of this Lou in his early years became withdrawn and isolated. It was in his teen years that he took solace in training with weights. Lou became obsessed in body building, training each and everyday spending hours in the gym. Lou's vision was to become the best, to become a body building icon and nothing was to stop him. Luckily for Lou he had good body genetics and his muscle gains we quick coming with all the hard work. He entered many amateur body building competitions and his results were astounding. It was during one of these body building contests that he crossed paths with the legendary Joe Weider. Joe quickly realised the potential that Ferigno had and took him under his wing and destined him for the professional body building stage. In the early days of professional body building the prize money was extremely poor. So Lou had to work full time as a construction worker to fund his body building aspirations. Lou's big break came in the production of an all time body building classic called Pumping Iron featuring many body building greats including the legend Arnold Scwarhzegger. This classic body building documentary was to lay the path for Lou's film career.

The Incredible Hulk body building legend

Lou Ferigno's first big break in filming came funny enough as a consequence of James Bond villain Richard “Jaws” Kiel withdrawing from the filming of the Incredible Hulk. Lou was called into to play the green giant. Nobody could of guessed just how popular the Incredible Hulk series was to become. This one film propelled Lou Ferigno into the realms of a true body building superstar. Ferigno is now in his retirement years but is still a very popular face around the many body building contests and bodybuilding circuits. The fans love him and his autographs are sought worldwide.
